Technorati is a blog search engine that ranks posts by relevance and time frame much the way googles blog search does. By signing up for free at Technorati you can claim your blogs and ping them to make sure that they are included in Technorati's results.

Google Reader Subscription Button

I recently added a subscription button to allow readers to subscribe to Blog Advertising via Google reader.

I have always believed in adding subscription buttons to my blogs especially when it comes to search engines rss aggregators. It is by far one of the quickest and easiest ways to get them to notice and index your pages, once you have a subscriber(hint: you can subscribe). I started a new blog that reviews DVDs a couple days ago, Ill talk more about this once it gets going. I added a google reader button, subscribed, and sure enough googlebot showed up in less than 12 hours, less than 24 hours after I bought the domain. Not bad in my opinion especially when you consider the site has 0 incoming links at this time.

Subscription buttons are also useful for building a list. You know that magical thing that every internet marketing guru is always telling you to do. Build you list. While a subscriber to your blog through a rss aggregator isnt quite the same as an email subscriber it is still a list, just a different form. Instead of loging into their email reader they log into their aggregator. Same thing just a different format.

Anyways to get down to business to add a google reader subsription button to your blog. First, you will need to save a copy of a google reader button and put it on your server. Then you will need to add the following link to your blog template. Replace YourRSSURL with your rss feed url, YourBlog with your blogs name, and YourButtonURL with the url of your google reader subscription button.

Free Advertising Blog Update

I first posted about Mike Filsaime's Free Advertising Blog in Dec soon after I had signed up.

Several months have now passed and I have been able to use the Free Advertising Blog a bit more and have been quite pleased. I have gotten a good deal of free traffic especially based on the amount of time it takes to use, very little. Overall I have been pleased with Free Advertising Blog and would highly recomend it. Thinking about moving to Word Press

Recently I have been contimplating moving Blog Advertising to a Word Press script on a domain that I got for it.

It is not that I have not been happy here at Blogger, I have been. This is a great way to blog, I highly recomend it to anyone out there that is looking for a place to set up a blog. I especially recomend Blogger for those of you that are new to blogging and new to websites. Blogger is very user friendly and very easy to set up.

Word Press is also a great blog script. It does however require you to have a server, a domain name, and to install the script. While these are no problem for me, did it all for a new site I am working on in under 15 minutes last night, it isnt for everyone. What Word Press does have is alot more features, some really useful plugins, and better tracking as it would be on my own server.

Moving to a Word Press script would also mean that the url for blog advertising would change. This would to some degree almost mean that I would be starting over, as I would have to restablish incoming links. Not a problem but definatly a bit time consuming.

Either way I do believe that I will start talking about blog scripts more. What the different ones can do and all. It is something that I would have found extremely useful several months ago and I am sure many people would find useful in the future.

Syndicate Links Updated

Hey everyone. I just got done updating our syndicate link over on the sidebar and I felt that I should mention it as this is one great way to advertise your blog.

I first talked about these little buttons back several months ago when I started blog advertising and I do feel that they have helped greatly to build traffic to the site.

I added Rojo and Google reader subscription links and took off the one to feedster untill I can figure out what url it needs to go to, it was bringing up a blank page.

I also changed the feed link that it subscribes the user to to go to my feed burner rss feed as opposed to my blogger atom feed. I did this because of feedburners tracking features which I have tested out with other sites and found incredibly useful.

Over the next few days I will go back over the code needed to add subscription links to your blog and talk more about feedburner.

Bloggers Guide To Profits

Bloggers Guide to Profits is an ebook about blogging and making money doing it. Bloggers Guide to Profits was written by Michael Rasmussen and Jason Tarasi.

Personally I found Bloggers Guide to Profits to be a great book. It contains some great info about blogging that I had not know before. I would highly recomend it to anyone.

If you want to learn more about how to use a blog to increase your business or to make money this is a great book dont pass it by.

I first mentioned Traffic Swarm here on Blog Advertising back in July of 2005. I am still using Traffic Swarm to promote Blog Advertising as well as my other websites and I am still very pleased with it. Hey everyone though I would give an update of how things are going here at Blog Advertising. Traffic continues to come in from both the search engines and blog traffic exchanges here at Blog Advertising. Our Google PR remains at 4. Many of the keywords we are getting hits for remain the same, "blog advertising" remains our top keyword. I did however notice that we are getting hits from searches for the blog only traffic exchanges and several for traffic swarm, so we may have to rereview those.

Hey everyone, I thought I would give an update on how things are going here at Blog Advertising. We continue to get more traffic including alot more traffic from search engines. Our Google Page Rank has risen to a PR of 4. We are now receiving a good deal of traffic from all three of big search engines Google, MSN, and Yahoo. Our keyword list that we are getting hits for has also gotten larger. Recently we have gotten hits from the following keywords:

Hey Everyone,

Promotion of Blog Advertising continues to gain steam.

Blog Advertising has been getting more and more hits from the search engines, mainly Yahoo and MSN. Both our number of hits per keyword and our number of keywords has been steadily increasing. In the last week we have recieved hits from the search engines from the following key words:

a blog on advertising
blog exchange advertising
advertising your blog
how to get exposure for your blog
advertising on my blog

promote your blog
free advertising blog
Not bad at all in my opinion, definatly a big step in the right direction.

Traffic also continues to come in from our incoming links around the web. Some of the best links we have are my sig file links at various forums that I am member of. Posting relevant information and using a sig file in forums can be some of the best free advertising out there.

Blog Advertising is also continuing to recieve a good deal of traffic from the blog only traffic exchanges. Blog Explosion and Blogazoo are bringing in the most traffic for me with Blog Soldiers and Blog Clicker close behind. I have tried out a couple of other blog exchanges which I have posted about I just havent really taken to any of them yet. Regular traffic exchanges also continue to bring in some traffic I really haven't put Blog Advertising into that many, been saving my traffic on the regular traffic exchanges for something else for several months now.

Since launching Blog Advertising I have been promoting it on four blog only traffic exchanges. Traffic has been coming in steadily and it would seem that people really are reading my blog. And best of all I can earn traffic to my blog by promoting the blog only traffic exchanges on it.

What Advertising Works?

What advertising works? While that will probably depend largely on the site there is no double that some advertising will work out better than some other forms. So how do you know which of your advertising efforts are paying off? Track your visitors. Here at Blog Advertising I have Stat Counter a free tracker that keeps track of where my visitors are coming from and where they are going. This allows me to see which of my forms of advertising are working. Once I know which forms of advertising are working I can focus on those. That means I spend less time and money for greater rewards.

Stat Counter is a free tracking service that you can easily add to a blog. You just cut and paste some code and there it is. It keeps track of most major items fairly well and it can be added to a website that is not on your server.

I decided it would best to talk about forums first as sig files in forums have been one of my few methods of promotion recently. Sig files in forums can be one of the absolute best ways to advertise your site or blog for free. With a sig file you will get a free ad every time you post. The more you post the more ads you get. However in my experience the number of clicks you will get and the quality of the clicks will depend more on how you post instead of how often you post. People who make relevant thought provoking posts are more likely to have their links clicked on than those who spam forums with pointless dribble. Why because no one cares what they are promoting. When people read an insightful and useful post on the other hand they are more likely to say hey this guy knows his stuff what is this link of his. It also helps to post in forums that are related to your web site or blog as opposed to ones that have nothing to do with its subject.

It has been a while since I have done much with Blog Advertising. Havent really advertised or posted here for about two months now. I am very sorry for that and am going to start working on this again.

Even though it has been some time since I have posted here Blog Advertising has been receiving visitors, so I feel I was definatly on the right track when I was working on this.

Our google page rank remains at a pr of 4. Not bad but it can definatly get better.

Over the coming weeks and months I hope to share with you great ways to promote your blog or website. After all what good is a blog if no one is reading it.

Well I haven't done much in awhile but the search engines are definatly noticing what I have done. If you have been reading along you will know that I have submitted Blog Advertising to a decent number of blog directories and directories. I also added a link in my sig file at two of my favorite forums. The search engines have definatly noticed several inbond links. Our Page Rank with Google is now showing up as a 4. Thats not bad especially considering that this blog is less than 2 months old.

Blog Traffic Exchange Update

Search Engine Update

Thought I would give an update on our status with regard to the major search engines. Google and Yahoo have indexed Blog Advertising. MSN has not yet indexed Blog Advertising.

For our main keyword "Blog Advertising" I found us listed 80th on Yahoo and and I could not find us in the top 100 at Google.

Its a start search engine rankings dont come quickly or easily. I am very pleased to have been indexed quickly and will continue to work on improving our results.

You can sign up for free and after inserting a small peice of code into your template it will track statistics for you. You can even choose a style for a counter or make it invisible. Tracking where traffic is coming from is very important in a successful advertising campaign, take the time to set up some sort of tracking.

The Net Marketing Forum is a forum mainly pertaining to traffic exchanges. I have been a member there for over a year now and it is one of my favorite forums. Blog Clicker which is free to join offers many of the great benifits of the other blog only traffic exchanges. 2:1 ratio for every 2 blogs you view someone views yours. A blog directory that you can submit your blog to. And of course they offer free traffic for referring others, with that in mind I added a button like the one above to the side of my blog and linked it to my referral page.

BlogAzoo is a free to join program. BlogAzoo is a 2:1 exchange so for every 2 blogs you view someone will view yours. They also have a blog directory that you may submit you blog to.

You can also earn traffic to your blog by referring others to BlogAzoo. I added a button to the side of my blog that links to my BlogAzoo referral page.

Blog Explosion is a blog only traffic exchange.

You view other blogs and in return other people view your blog. I have been using regular traffic exchanges for over a year now and find them to be a great way to advertise.

Blog Explosion is free to join and for every two blogs you view someone will view your blog. You can also earn traffic to your blog by referring other people. Blog Explosion also offers a blog directory and the "Battle of the Blogs" where you can enter a contest with another blog.

I added a button on the side of my blog that links to my referral page at Blog Explosion. The appropriate code can be found in your Blog Explosion members area.

Blog Lines is another feed reader at which people can subscribe to you blog.

Much like My MSN and My Yahoo you can add your feed through the members area after signing up for a free account by clicking on "My Feeds" and then "Add". And you can get a button to allow others to subscribe by clicking where it says "Get a Subscribe To Bloglines Button" under "My Feeds" in the members area.

News Gator

News Gator is a place where you can subscrible to your favorite blogs much like My MSN or My Yahoo.

You can also add buttons to your blog like the one above so that News Gator members can easily add your feed to their favorites.

To add you feed to News Gator sign up for a free account. Once in your members area click on "Add a Feed" then click on "URL & Import". Enter your feed URL into the text box and click on "Add Feed".

Blog Catalog

Blog Catalog is a blog directory and blog search engine.

Once at Blog Catalog click on "Submit a Blog" and fill out your information.

Blog Hub

Blog Hub is another Blog Directory to which we will submit our blog.

Once at Blog Hub scroll down to the bottom, you will see "Add Listing" in white text on the yellowish/orange bar. Click on "Add Listing" and fill out your information. Blog Hub also ask that you link back to them, I am using the image shown above.

Blog Wise

Blog Wise is a Blog Directory and will be the next place that we will go.

Once at Blog Wise click on "Submit Your Blog" on the column on the left hand side of the page. After that follow the instructions filling out your info. When your done Blog Wise does ask that you link back to them they provide several graphics that you can choose from. I am using the one shown above and have also added it to the side of my blog.

MSN

Next we will head over to MSN.

First off you will need a My MSN account, like at Yahoo it is free and doesn't take long to sign up for. Once you have your My MSN page open click on "Add Content". A page will pop up with a search box. Paste your feed url into the search box and click go. It will bring up a confirmation screen, just check the box next to your feed and click on OK. Its that simple.

You may also want to add a button to your blog for MSN like we did for Yahoo. I added the following button on the side of my blog. By clicking on it you can easily add Blog Advertising your your My MSN page.

Yahoo

First things first - Search Engines

Ill go ahead with Yahoo first.

To add your feed to Yahoo so they they will start indexing your blog you will first need a My Yahoo account. Its free and doesnt take long to sign up. Once you have signed up and are on your My Yahoo page click on "Add Content" this should bring up a page with a search box, next to the box you should see a link that says "Add RSS by URL" click on it. Enter the URL for your blogs RSS or Atom feed in the box and click on add. A page will come up verifying your URL, if it is correct click on the button that says "Add to My Yahoo".

You may also want to add buttons to your blog to allow others to view your post from their My Yahoo page. I added the following button on the side of my blog. By clicking on it you can easily add Blog Advertising your your My Yahoo page.

Yahoo has a cool tool that you can use to get the code for a button like this for your blog you can find it here.
